Jackeline in Salamanca
¡Hola! My name is Jackeline Fernandes and I’m a senior majoring in English and Psychology at Amherst. I’m from Port Washington, New York—an often humid waterfront town out in the Long Island suburbs—which is one of the many reasons why I’m excited to spend this semester in dry Salamanca, Spain.
In documenting my time in Spain with the IES Language and Area Studies program, I hope to spotlight Salamanca’s rich culture while reflecting on the evolution of my relationship with Spanish—a language in which I am proficient, but not entirely fluent. Through my musings from Spanish literature classes, interactions with locals, and the distinguished art scene, I plan to track the effect of increased linguistic knowledge on my perceptions of the area and my own identities. I’m looking forward to sharing my adventures in “La Ciudad Dorada” (The Golden City) with you here!
